Home Of Comfort Nursing Home
The Home of Comfort Nursing Home, originally founded in 1896 by Mother Emma, the Head Deaconess of the Winchester Diocese, is non-profit making and is a registered charity.
Originally opened with just 12 residents, the Home now offers care to 29 older people with Nursing needs, both long term and palliative. We also offer respite care when we have space available.
The Home is located in a quiet area of Southsea, Portsmouth, but is close to local shops and amenities and within walking distance to the sea front.
We pride ourselves on offering the highest quality care to all of our residents. The Home has staff on duty – including Nursing staff – around the clock, in a secure, open and friendly atmosphere, where the residents’ welfare and happiness are of paramount importance.
All of our residents are encouraged to take part in our program of activities, and to consider this their Home from the day that they move in. We welcome visitors, and for a small charge a meal and/or accommodation can be arranged.
Home Of Comfort Nursing Home is a 29 bed roomed house of mixed age, set in attractive gardens.
Our bedrooms are all single, simply and tastefully decorated and furnished. Profiling beds and pressure relieving mattresses are available for all residents according to need. There is a nurse call system throughout the Home.
We have two wet-rooms and two bathrooms with lifting baths, plus two bedrooms with their own ensuite shower room.
Residents are encouraged to personalise their own rooms with photographs, pictures, ornaments and small items of furniture. They may also chose to have their own telephone line installed if they wish.
The house has a peaceful sunny conservatory which offers a good view of the garden, and a busier dining room where communal activities take place. A small quiet lounge is also available for meetings and private parties.
All of our food is prepared in house by our qualified chef to provide nutritionally balanced wholesome meals. All dietary needs can be catered for.
The Home offers an in-house laundry service. Hairdressing, manicure and chiropody services are all available on site. Newspapers can be delivered if requested. A monthly communion service, conducted by a local vicar, is held at the Home, to which all denominations are welcome.
There are no specific visiting times although visitors to the Home are encouraged to consider the preferences and routines of the individual they are coming to see. Pets and children are welcomed.
